Since 1978, Stalactites has been on the corner of Lonsdale Street, when the Konstandakopoulos family opened their doors and began serving the food they had grown up with in Greece.

For nearly fifty years, the restaurant continues much as it always has.

Slow-cooked lamb, dips made from scratch, and the generous home-cooked Greek dishes people return for again and again.

Same corner.

Same family.

Same recipes.

FAQs

“Stalactites remains one of Melbourne’s great constants, especially after dark. Since 1978, the Lonsdale Street dining room has kept its bright glow, limestone-style ceiling and all-hours energy, turning out souvlaki, grilled meats and dips for the city at every hour. Pre-theatre, post-gig, end-of-shift, first stop, last stop — it covers them all. Few restaurants are this woven into Melbourne life, and fewer still keep the pace this well.”

SITCHU MELBOURNE

“In a city filled with dainty wine bars and hatted venues, sometimes what you really crave is a robust and uncomplicated meal. Stalactites has fulfilled this need since 1978 and has not only survived but thrived, evidenced by its perpetual busyness. Fresh dips such as salty tarama and creamy eggplant, along with colossal platters of glistening meat fresh from the spit, are a must.”
